Our 2-Year Genetic Health Guarantee

It is hereby agreed by both parties that the following conditions will be met and that no other warranties or conditions are expressed or implied.

This agreement is for the benefit of both the buyer and seller.  It is the intent of the breeder to guarantee that each puppy is healthy at the time of adoption or delivery. Therefore, we ask that the buyer makes every reasonable effort to have the puppy examined by a vet within 3 days of possession.  Since we cannot control the environment of the puppy after it leaves the breeder, this agreement is null and void if the buyer is negligent in securing a timely vet visit after bringing the puppy home.

General Agreements:

  • Any refund shall never be in excess of the original purchase price of the puppy.
  • Buyer is welcome to pick up their puppy from the breeder and is responsible for all transportation fees of the original puppy and any replacement puppy.
  • The Buyer must return AKC and vet / vaccination  paperwork with any puppy or dog that is returned for a replacement puppy.
  • The Breeder cannot guarantee the puppy’s size, color, or temperament after the puppy leaves the Breeder.
  • Buyer releases Breeder and Kauffman Companions, LLC from any and all liabilities, and/or damages by fault of this dog after the time of sale. These damages include, but are not limited to, destruction of property and/or physical damage to any person or group of people.
  • Buyer assumes exclusive responsibility for all veterinary care and its associated costs.
  • Buyer agrees that if for any reason during the puppy/dog’s life, they are unable to keep or provide for their puppy/dog, they will contact the Breeder to take the puppy/dog back or seek our assistance to help in rehoming the puppy/dog.
  • Buyer regret, change of employment status, allergic reactions, etc are not grounds for a return/refund. We will always take the puppy / dog back, but any potential refund is at the sole discretion of the Breeder.

Communicable Disease Guarantee:

Should the puppy die from communicable disease (this does not include parasites or hypoglycemia) within 14 days of purchase and buyer promptly sought treatment by certified veterinarian, and if said vet certifies in writing that the pup was thought to have been exposed to the disease prior to leaving the breeder, buyer will get a full refund of purchase price of the puppy within 45 days of certification of death or autopsy report.

Note on parasites: Puppies’ immune systems are still developing, causing them to be vulnerable for internal parasites, especially under stress. Moving to a new home, change of diet, and excessive handling are all stress factors that can compromise a puppy’s immune system response against worms, giardia, or coccidiosis. Every preventative effort has been made by the Breeder to mitigate these vulnerabilities. However, you should be aware of them possibly occurring. These conditions are all treatable and are not reasons to warrant a return or exchange.

Genetic Health Guarantee: A warranty against all serious life-altering congenital disease or genetic defects is provided for up to 24 months (2 years) from the puppy’s birthdate.

According to AKC, “Hip dysplasia is a common skeletal condition, often seen in large breed dogs…factors such as excessive growth rate, types of exercise, and improper weight and nutrition can magnify this genetic predisposition.” (Hip Dysplasia In Dogs: Prevention, Causes, Symptoms & Treatment, 2021).

A warranty for moderate to severe hip and elbow dysplasia is provided for 24 months from the puppy’s birth date. This warranty will be terminated and void should the buyer permit the dog to become overweight or joints be over-stressed at any point during the warranty period. If the dog is found to have genetic hip dysplasia during the warranty period, the buyer must provide the breeder with proof of diagnosis in the form of documentation from PennHipp or OFA.

In the case of moderate to severe hip / elbow dysplasia and all other serious life-altering congenital disease or genetic defects, the buyer must provide the breeder with all applicable documents such as vet records, x-rays, and any additional paperwork that substantiate a proof of diagnosis. The breeder reserves the right to have the dog examined (at the breeder’s expense) by a certified specialist before a refund is issued or replacement puppy is given.

This is a guarantee that your new puppy appears free of general health issues (unless otherwise noted on the Veterinary report.) At the age of 5-7 weeks, this puppy was by a veterinarian, and unless otherwise noted on the report, appears normal & Healthy. If you accept your puppy with the veterinary report that is given for that puppy, you take responsibility for the puppy and all vet bills that may accrue in the future if it is not covered in this health guarantee. This health guarantee covers general health upon pickup, and genetic health from the day your puppy was born till it is two years of age. After two years, this health guarantee is void.

Every puppy must see a licensed veterinarian within 7 days after leaving the seller or the health guarantee is void. If a veterinarian examines your puppy and diagnoses it with any serious diseases or injuries not noted on the seller’s veterinarian report, the seller agrees to refund the veterinary cost directly related to the issue. The seller will in no case refund more than the cost of the puppy upon purchase. A full veterinarian report must be presented to the seller, along with the veterinary’s contact information and signature. The report must show that the puppy has not been abused or neglected.

Listed here are a few examples that do not apply and are not covered within this health guarantee. Puppies can experience stress during the adoption process and transition to their new home. Factors contributing to this stress is change of diet, to much handling, or not eating properly. This stress can bring on things such as but not limited to parasites of any kind (internal, or external.), ear mites, colds, hypoglycemia, coccidian, giardia, or any diseases the puppy might pick up after leaving the seller. These conditions are all treatable and do not warrant a reimbursement.

You must vaccinate your puppy with the appropriate vaccines at the appropriate time and age of the puppy. Please know that all puppies can have worms or internal parasites. We deworm regularly and to the best of our knowledge, your puppy has no parasite issue. Also know that providing your puppy with the proper nutrition is important. This puppy has been on Tuffy’s Gold Dog Food since four weeks of age. Each puppy comes with a small bag of his current food to help them transition to their new home.

If your puppy has a life altering condition that proves to be genetic, up to the time your puppy is two years of age, you have two options. The seller will either replace your puppy with another puppy of the same breed & gender from the first available litter, or the seller will refund the veterinarian costs up to the amount paid for the puppy. The seller will in no case refund more than the cost of the puppy upon purchase. A full veterinary report diagnosing the issue must be presented to the seller, along with the veterinary’s contact information and signature. The report must show that the puppy has not been abused or neglected, and must prove that the condition is genetic.

Under no circumstances shall the seller be liable for any consequential damages resulting from or in a manner related to the puppy. The death, injury or loss of said dog, due to theft, carelessness, recklessness, abuse, neglect, heat stroke, or accident will not entitle you (owner) to any compensation from us (breeder). If the puppy should die within 72 hours of purchase an autopsy from a state vet lab is required.

Our goal is to provide you with a healthy puppy that will stay in your family for years to come. If for some reason you can’t take care of your puppy or can’t keep it any longer, please return the puppy to us. You will not be refunded for this puppy. If your puppy shows up with any type of health issues, please contact us so that we are aware of it.

This dog is warranted only for the purpose of being a companion animal; not for any other reason, such as breeding or show, etc.

By signing, both the buyer and seller agree to use honesty and trust, and have read and understand this health guarantee.
